In today’s episode of “Be Well, Do Well,” I unveil the transformative power of meditation for entrepreneurs, showing how it can sharpen focus, ignite creativity, and quell the daily stress of business and parenting. Meditation isn’t just spiritual fluff; it’s a practical tool for mental clarity, endorsed by luminaries like Jerry Seinfeld, Oprah, and Steve Jobs. They didn’t climb to the top by constant hustle alone; they paused, reflected, and meditated. I share how this practice can extinguish the “flaming torches” of our hectic lives, making space for breakthrough ideas and smarter decisions.

Embarking on the meditation journey might seem daunting, especially with a packed schedule. Yet, I break it down into manageable steps, starting with just five minutes of focused breathing in a quiet spot. With personal anecdotes and tips, I explore accessible tools like the Headspace and Calm apps, and even the Muse headband for a tech-savvy approach. This episode is not just about theory; it’s a call to action with a weekly meditation challenge. Join me in discovering how a few minutes of daily meditation can lead to a more relaxed, creative, and focused life, proving that if time can be found in Jerry Seinfeld’s day for meditation, it can find a place in ours too.

Amin Ahmed:

Hi there and welcome back to the Be Well, Do Well podcast, your spot for blending entrepreneurship with a sprinkle of parenting and a dash of wellness.

Amin Ahmed:

I'm your host, Amin, and today we're going to be diving into a topic that's a game changer for both your business and your personal life.

Amin Ahmed:

Meditation.

Amin Ahmed:

Yes, you heard right.

Amin Ahmed:

Now before you say, I don't have time to sit around and hum, let me tell you, it's not about that.

Amin Ahmed:

Meditation is about taking a moment to clear your mind.

Amin Ahmed:

Remove the clutter and sharpen your focus.

Amin Ahmed:

And guess what?

Amin Ahmed:

Some of the most successful people swear by it.

Amin Ahmed:

No.

Amin Ahmed:

Let's start with Jerry Seinfeld.

Amin Ahmed:

Yeah, that's right.

Amin Ahmed:

The comedian legend himself.

Amin Ahmed:

Jerry Seinfeld has been practicing transcendental meditation since the 70s.

Amin Ahmed:

He says it's like a charger for your mind and body.

Amin Ahmed:

Imagine that, a daily recharge that keeps you going.

Amin Ahmed:

But it's not just Jerry.

Amin Ahmed:

Think about Oprah, Hugh Jackman, and even the late Steve Jobs.

Amin Ahmed:

These amazing people didn't just reach the top by running non stop.

Amin Ahmed:

They paused, they reflected, and they meditated.

Amin Ahmed:

So how does sitting quietly for a few minutes each day help you in your business?

Amin Ahmed:

First of all, it reduces stress.

Amin Ahmed:

Running a business, being a parent, it's like juggling flaming torches while riding a unicycle.

Amin Ahmed:

Meditation helps put out those flames.

Amin Ahmed:

Next, meditation boosts your creativity.

Amin Ahmed:

Have you ever had your best ideas in the shower?

Amin Ahmed:

That's your mind in a meditative state.

Amin Ahmed:

Meditation can be that shower for your brain, And here's the kicker.

Amin Ahmed:

It improves focus and helps you make better decisions.

Amin Ahmed:

As entrepreneurs, we're the captains of our ships.

Amin Ahmed:

A foggy mind can't navigate the high seas of business.

Amin Ahmed:

Meditation clears that fog, giving you a clear view over the horizon.

Amin Ahmed:

Now I know what you're thinking.

Amin Ahmed:

How do I even start especially when I don't have time for the things that I'm already doing.

Amin Ahmed:

It's quite simple.

Amin Ahmed:

Now simple and easy are not the same.

Amin Ahmed:

But let's start with something that may be a little bit easier for you to get into meditation.

Amin Ahmed:

Find a quiet spot.

Amin Ahmed:

For me, it's just the spot on the couch.

Amin Ahmed:

I really enjoy sitting on the couch, pulling up the recliner, and stretching my legs.

Amin Ahmed:

Then focus on your breath.

Amin Ahmed:

Even five minutes a day where you just sit still, put on some headphones, maybe they're noise cancelling headphones so you drown out any background sounds.

Amin Ahmed:

Just five minutes a day can make a big difference.

Amin Ahmed:

And remember, it's like a skill.

Amin Ahmed:

The more you practice, the better you get.

Amin Ahmed:

I enjoy meditating using a couple of different electronic devices.

Amin Ahmed:

One is my phone with my headphones, like I mentioned, my noise cancelling headphones.

Amin Ahmed:

And I either launch the Headspace app or the Calm app.

Amin Ahmed:

They both have their strengths and their weaknesses, and I alternate between the two.

Amin Ahmed:

The other is my Muse headband.

Amin Ahmed:

Now this is something that I'll probably talk about in a future episode, but it's a biofeedback device that you wear over your forehead and behind your ears And it senses your brain patterns.

Amin Ahmed:

you also put on a pair of headphones for the biofeedback sounds and launch the Muse app.

Amin Ahmed:

It's a really great way to know whether your mind is distracted or if it's calm.

Amin Ahmed:

So my challenge to you this week, try for five minutes to meditate every day.

Amin Ahmed:

That's all.

Amin Ahmed:

Just five minutes.

Amin Ahmed:

You might have to wake up five minutes earlier, like in our previous episode we talked about, or stay up five minutes later and do it at the end of your day, or maybe just take a five minute shorter lunch break this week.

Amin Ahmed:

You might find yourself a bit more relaxed, a bit more creative, and I'm sure a whole lot more focused.

Amin Ahmed:

That's all for today's episode.

Amin Ahmed:

If Jerry Seinfeld can take time to meditate, we can surely squeeze it into our entrepreneurial lives.

Amin Ahmed:

Until next time, keep meditating, keep thriving, and let's keep juggling those torches, but maybe just a little more calmly.

Amin Ahmed:

Remember to be well and do well, and I'll catch you on the next episode.
